Ompong no longer a threat to PHL —PAGASA


Typhoon Ompong (international name:Mangkhut) has no direct threat anymore to any part of the country as it moves closer to Southern China, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Sunday.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Ompong was spotted at 705 kilometers west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan packing maximum sustained winds of 145 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA said it is tracking the northwest direction at 30 kilometers per hour.

Ompong left 25 people dead as it threatened Northern Luzon last week.

Presidential Political Adviser Francis Tolentino has noted that 20 of the fatalities were from the Cordillera Administrative Region, four from Nueva Vizcaya, and one from Ilocos Region.

Tolentino also said relief goods have been prepositioned in areas adversely affected by Ompong.

According to PAGASA, Ompong will possibly be at 1,315 kilometers west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan on Monday morning and will be at 1,835 kilometers west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan by Tuesday morning. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KG, GMA News
