PAGASA: 2 more tropical cyclones may enter PAR in October

Two more tropical cyclones could enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this month, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

Typhoon Queenie has already been counted as the first for October.

As reported by meteorologist Nathaniel Cruz on 24 Oras, PAGASA said that if the cyclones enter PAR, they are likely to make landfall in Luzon or Visayas.

Tropical cyclones are classified according to strength:

  • Tropical Depression - a tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of up to 61 kph or less than 33 nautical miles per hour (knots)
  • Tropical Storm - a tropical cyclone with maximum wind speed of 62 to 88 kph or 34 to 47 knots.
  • Severe Tropical Storm - a tropical cyclone with maximum wind speed of 89 to 117 kph or 48 to 63 knots.
  • Typhoon - a tropical cyclone with maximum wind speed of 118 to 220 kph or 64 to 120 knots.
  • Super Typhoon - a tropical cyclone with maximum wind speed greater than 200 kph or more than 120 knots.

Meanwhile, the easterly winds continue to affect southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

According to the Metraweather forecast, Metro Manila will experience partly cloudy skies and possible rain on Friday afternoon.

Chances of rain in the morning are expected in Cagayan Valley and Aurora, while Ilocos Region, Cordillera, and Zambales may see rain in the afternoon.

Western Visayas will also experience rain.

In Mindanao, early rainshowers may also be felt in SOCCSKSARGEN and the Davao Region.

It is also likely to rain in Zamboanga and Northern Mindanao in the afternoon. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
