ALL WARNING SIGNALS LOWERED

Usman makes landfall over Eastern Samar, weakens into an LPA

Tropical Depression Usman made landfall over Eastern Samar's Borongan City at 6 a.m., and weakened into a low-pressure area, weather service PAGASA reported in a Saturday morning bulletin.

At 7 a.m., the LPA was in the vicinity of Llorente, Eastern Samar.

With Usman having weakened into an LPA, all tropical cyclone warning signals were lowered.

Nevertheless, moderate to heavy rain could still be expected over the Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol Regions, as well as over Aurora province.

Light to moderate, with at times heavy rain could also be expected over Metro Manila, and over the rest of Central Luzon and the Visayas.

PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said in a press briefing at 8 a.m. that the rains over Metro Manila are due to the northeast monsoon (amihan)

Flooding and landslides remained a danger and all these areas; and the seaboards of northern and Central Luzon, the eastern and western seaboards of southern Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of the Visayas remained dangerous to fisherfolk and  small seacraft.

Aurelio said it will remain cloudy on Sunday, but weather conditions throughout the country will improve by Monday, Dec. 31.

On Sunday, the low pressure area is expected to be nearer Palawan.

It will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday morning. —DVM/KG, GMA News
