Marilyn weakens, may become LPA; Habagat to bring rains over 5 areas

Tropical Depression Marilyn weakened slightly on Saturday and may become a low pressure area, PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring rains over Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Sulu Archipelago, Palawan and Mindoro Provinces.

These areas will have occasional to frequent light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains on Saturday until Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, the Bicol Region and the rest of Mimaropa and Visayas will have scattered light to moderate rains which may become heavy at times due to thunderstorms.

PAGASA advised those living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas to take the necessary precautions, coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and monitor the weather updates.

As of 10 a.m., the eye of Marilyn was located at 1,215 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.

Marilyn has maximum winds of up to 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

It is moving northeast at 10 kph.

No tropical cyclone wind signals were raised.

Marilyn is not likely to make landfall.

However, it may again develop into a tropical depression after becoming an LPA.

Marilyn is expected to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility in 24 hours.

PAGASA said sea travel over the western seaboard of Southern Luzon and the seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao is risky especially for small seacraft. Coastal waters in these areas may be potentially rough.

The next weather forecast will be issued at 4 p.m., PAGASA said. —KG, GMA News
