Science City of Muñoz, Sangley Point record day’s hottest index at 49°C

PAGASA’s weather stations in Science City of Muñoz in Nueva Ecija and Sangley Point in Cavite City recorded the highest heat index in the country on Sunday afternoon with 49°C.

According to the state weather bureau, these are followed by Ambulong in Tanauan City with 48°C, San Jose Occidental Mindoro with 47°C, and Legazpi City and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City with 45°C.

PAGASA reiterated the dangers brought by a heat index (or the human-perceived temperature) ranging from 41 to 54°C such as heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Heat stroke is also possible amid continuous physical activity.

Meanwhile, the heat index reached 43°C at the Science Garden in Quezon City at 2:50 p.m. on Sunday.

PAGASA also recorded a maximum temperature of 36.5°C in the area.

Moreover, PAGASA said the top five stations that recorded the highest temperature in the country on Saturday were in northern and Central Luzon.

Echague in Isabela recorded the highest temperature so far in the dry season at 40.1°C; Tuguegarao City recorded 39.0°C; Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac recorded 38.7°C; Camiling, Tarlac recorded 38.6°C; and Science City of Muñoz recorded 38.5°C.
