Signal No. 2 remains over Babuyan Islands, Ilocos, Abra as Ambo moves over coast

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 remained hoisted over the Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Abra as Tropical Storm Ambo (international name: Vongfong) moved north-northwestward over the coast of the Ilocos provinces, PAGASA said on Saturday morning.

These areas have 61-120 km/h winds prevailing or may be expected in 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the following areas are under TCWS No. 1, where winds of 30-60 km/h are prevailing or may be expected in 36 hours:

  • Batanes
  • Cagayan
  • western portion of Isabela (Sta, Maria, Sto. Tomas, Delfino Albano, San Pablo, Cabagan, Tumauini, Quirino, Mallig, Quezon, Roxas, San Manuel, Burgos, Gamu, Reina Mercedes, Luna, Aurora, Cabatuan, San Mateo, Ramon)
  • western portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Villaverde, Solano, Bayombong, Ambaguio, Bambang, Kayapa, Aritao, Santa Fe)
  • Apayao
  • Kalinga
  • Benguet
  • Mountain Province
  • Ifugao
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan

On Saturday, Cagayan Valley will have moderate to heavy rains, while light to moderate to at times heavy rains may be expected over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region and the northern parts of Aurora and Zambales.

On Sunday, Batanes and Babuyan Islands may expect moderate to heavy rains.

PAGASA said residents in these areas should take the necessary precautions, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and monitor weather updates.

It added that flooding and landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall in areas identified to be highly to very highly susceptible.

Coastal waters

PAGASA said sea travel remains to be risky for all seacraft in areas under TCWS and the east coast of Quezon including Polillo Islands.

Eye of the storm

The eye or center of Ambo was located at 10 a.m. at 40 km northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

Ambo slightly weakened and now has maximum sustained winds of up to 65 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 100 km/h.

It is moving north northwest at 25 km/h.

Ambo is expected to be at 115 km west northwest of Calayan, Cagayan on Sunday morning, and 470 km northeast of Basco, Batanes on Monday morning.

The storm is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday afternoon.
