Ambo now a tropical depression; may exit PAR on Monday

Ambo was reclassified a tropical depression even as it headed north-northeastward over the Luzon strait, PAGASA announced Saturday evening.

According to the latest severe weather bulletin, the center of Ambo was estimated at 90 kilometers west of Calayan, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

PAGASA said Ambo was likely to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remained raised over:

  • Ilocos Norte
  • Batanes
  • Babuyan Islands

  • The northwestern portion of Cagayan (Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros)
  • The northern portion of Apayao (Calanasan, Luna)

The next severe weather bulletin will be issued at 11 p.m.

Heavy rainfall outlook

Ambo would bring light to moderate with, at times, heavy rain over the Ilocos, Cordillera Administrative, and Cagayan Valley Regions, and over the northern portion of Aurora until Saturday evening.

From Saturday night to Sunday evening, it may bring moderate with, at times, heavy rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

The weather service advised residents to take precautionary measures as flooding and rain-induced landslides were possible in susceptible areas. — DVM, GMA News
