Enteng exits PAR as LPA off Dagupan seen to develop into tropical depression

Tropical Storm Enteng exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 1 p.m. Sunday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its 5 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said the cyclone was last seen 730 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

Enteng continues to move northward at 40 kph toward the East China Sea and is expected to turn slightly northwestward toward South Korea.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said it was monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) that was last located 250 kilometers west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

“This disturbance may develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours,” the bureau said.

PAGASA said gusty conditions brought by Enteng may prevail within the next 24 hours, especially in coastal and mountainous areas, over Pangasinan, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and the LPA are expected to bring monsoon rains over Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Cavite, Batangas, and MIMAROPA and occasional rains over Metro Manila, Aklan, Antique, and the rest of Luzon.

PAGASA warned that “flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards.”

The weather bureau also said a Gale Warning is in effect over the seaboards of Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, western coast of Batangas, western coast of Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island, and western coast of Palawan including Calamian Islands; Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Isabela.

“Sea travel is risky over these areas due to rough to very rough seas,” it said, adding that small seacraft were advised to take precautions. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
