Quinta to bring rain, gusty winds to Mindoro, Batangas, Calamian

Typhoon Quinta is expected to bring rain with gusty winds over the Mindoro provinces, Batangas and the Calamian Islands, PAGASA said Monday.

In its 24-hour forecast, the weather bureau said the eye of Quinta was located 240 kilometers northwest of Coron, Palawan at 3 p.m. with maximum sustained winds of 130 km per hour near the center and gustiness up to 160 kph. It is moving west northwestward at 25 kph.

PAGASA advised affected residents to prepare for possible flash floods or landslides due to light to moderate, with at times, heavy rains and possible very light to light damage to structures and vegetation due to moderate winds.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said the rest of Luzon, Central and Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro and Northern Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough of Quinta or the tail-end of the frontal system.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rain showers or thunderstorms will also prevail over Eastern Visayas and the rest of Mindanao due to the trough of Quinta.

The weather agency said flash floods or landslides are also possible severe thunderstorms.

Moreover, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds and moderate to tough coastal water conditions will prevail over Luzon and Western Visayas.

The rest of the country, meanwhile, will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate waters. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
