Signal No. 5 in CamSur, Albay; No. 4 in NCR, 13 other areas as Rolly makes 2nd landfall over Tiwi, Albay


Super Typhoon Rolly (international name: Goni) made its second landfall over Tiwi, Albay on Sunday morning, PAGASA weather forecaster Lorie dela Cruz said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.

Dela Cruz said Rolly had made its second landfall at 7:20 a.m.

"Sa latest po natin, nagkaroon na ho ng second landfall kung baga sa pangalawang pagkakataon lumapat sa lupa ang sentro nitong si Rolly sa Tiwi, Albay," Dela Cruz said.

The super typhoon first made landfall over Bato, Catanduanes at 4:50 a.m. on Sunday. 

In its 8 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Rolly is moving westward at 25 kilometers per hour, packing maximum sustained winds of 225 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 310 km/h.

The weather bureau warned that catastrophic violent winds and intense to torrential rainfall associated with the region of the eyewall and inner rainbands of the typhoon is prevailing or expected within the next 12 hours in the following provinces: Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, the northern portion of Sorsogon, Burias Island, Marinduque, the central and southern portions of Quezon, Laguna, and the eastern portion of Batangas.

PAGASA said Rolly's center is forecast to cross the Camarines provinces before heading towards the Marinduque-Southern Quezon area this afternoon.

Rolly is expected to bring heavy to intense with at times torrential rains over the Bicol Region, CALABARZON, Metro Manila, Marinduque, Romblon, Mindoro Provinces, Bataan, Bulacan, Aurora, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, and the eastern portions of mainland Cagayan and Isabela.

On the other hand, moderate to heavy rains with at times intense rains will be experienced over Cordillera Administrative Region, Leyte, and the rest of mainland Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon while light to moderate with at times heavy rains will be encountered in Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 is raised over Albay and Camarines Sur, according to PAGASA.

Meanwhile, TCWS No. 4 is hoisted in the following areas:

Rolly (international name: Goni) made its first landfall over Bato, Catanduanes at 4:50 a.m. of Sunday.

According to PAGASA, Rolly is expected to exit the mainland Luzon landmass and emerge over the West Philippine Sea between Sunday night and Monday early morning. 

As it traverses Southern Luzon, Rolly is seen to weaken but will emerge as a typhoon over the West Philippine Sea.

Other tropical systems being monitored 

As of 7 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm Atsani was estimated at 1,205 km east of Southern Luzon. PAGASA said it has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h. 

Atsani is heading towards the west-northwestward at 30 km/h. 

It is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday morning. Once inside PAR, it will be given the local name, "Siony." 

PAGASA said Atsani remains less likely to affect any portion of the country over the next two to three days.

However, it is likely to intensify into a severe tropical storm in the next 24 to 36 hours. — KG/RSJ, GMA News
