LPA seen to enter PAR in next 36 hours —PAGASA

State weather forecasters are monitoring three low pressure areas (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), one of them expected to enter PAR in the next 36 hours.

In its 11 a.m. advisory on Monday, PAGASA said the three LPAs are "less likely to develop into tropical depression."

At 10 a.m., the first LPA was monitored at 250 km west northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, while the second one was estimated at 115 km north northeast of Casiguran, Aurora.

The third LPA, the one that is expected to enter PAR in 36 hours, was estimated at 1,500 km east of Mindanao.

According to PAGASA, the LPAs may bring moderate to heavy rains over the northern and eastern portions of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, the eastern portion of Isabela, and Kalayaan Islands.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains, meanwhile, are expected over the rest of Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, the northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands, and Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, Cagayancillo Islands, Eastern Visayas and Caraga Region.

PAGASA also warned that flooding, including flashfloods, and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged periods of rainfall "especially in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards or in localities that received significant amount rainfall over the past couple of days or weeks."

"Adjacent or nearby areas may also experience flooding in the absence of such rainfall occurrence due to surface runoff or swelling of river channels," PAGASA added. —KBK, GMA News
