PAGASA said areas under TCWS No. 1 as well as CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Aurora, and the rest of the Visayas and the Bicol Region would experience strong to near-gale force conditions with occasionally higher gusts.

At 10 p.m. on Saturday, Auring was 480 kilometers east-southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 80 kph.

Despite being presently stationary, Auring was still forecast to make landfall over the Dinagat Islands-Eastern Samar (southern portion including Homonhon Island)-Leyte area between Sunday evening and early Monday morning.

PAGASA said the tropical storm may weaken into a tropical depression before making landfall.

Hazards affecting land

From Saturday night to Sunday, PAGASA said moderate to heavy rain was expected over Eastern Samar, the Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.

Meanwhile, light with, at times, heavy rain would prevail over the Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Quezon, and the rest of Visayas and Caraga.

On Monday, light to moderate with, at times, heavy rain would prevail over the Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Quezon, Aurora, Isabela, and Cagayan.

“Under these conditions, isolated to scattered flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are likely during heavy or prolonged rainfall,” PAGASA warned.

Hazards affecting coastal waters

In the next 24 hours, the weather agency said rough to high seas would prevail over seaboards of areas under Signal 1, while rough to very rough seas will prevail over the eastern seaboard of Luzon.

Rough seas will also prevail over the southern seaboard of Luzon (including the eastern seaboard of Palawan), the remaining seaboards of the Visayas, and the northern, eastern, and western seaboards of Mindanao that are not under any TCWS.

Sea travel remained risky in these areas.

Meanwhile, moderate to rough seas would prevail over the remaining seaboards in the country.

“Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions,” PAGASA suggested. — DVM, GMA News
