TS 'Surigae' may intensify in 24 hours, enter PAR as 'Bising' on Friday

Tropical Storm "Surigae" may intensify into a severe tropical storm over the next 24 hours, and is forecasted to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as "Bising" on Friday, PAGASA said Wednesday.

In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Tropical Storm "Surigae" has slightly intensified while almost stationary, and remain less likely to directly affect the country over the next three days.

As of 10 a.m., the center of the tropical storm was estimated at 1,205 kilometers east of Mindanao. It has maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near the center and gustiness up to 90 km/h.

PAGASA said Surigae may reach typhoon category by Friday.

With this, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices, especially those situated over the eastern portions of Southern Luzon and Visayas, are advised to continuously monitor for updates.

Based on the forecast track, PAGASA said Surigae is forecast to move generally north-northwestward or northward while slightly slowing down on Wednesday through Thursday morning, then will turn west-northwestward and gradually accelerate.

It added that a westward shift in the current forecast track may result in potentially significant impacts over the aforementioned areas over the weekend (April 17-18) and on Monday (April 19) due to the uncertainty in the track forecast of Surigae.—AOL, GMA News
