LPA develops into Tropical Depression Crising, Signal No. 1 raised over 4 areas

The Low Pressure Area (LPA) east of Davao City has developed into Tropical Depression Crising, PAGASA reported in its early morning forecast.

Crising was estimated based at 430 kilometers east of Davao City with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 55 kph and moving westward at 15 kph.

Davao Region and Surigao del Sur will experience rains with gusty winds brought about by Tropical Depression Crising with possible light to moderate damage to structures and vegetation due to moderate to strong winds, and flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

The rest of Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the Trough of Crising with possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over the following areas:

  • Surigao del Sur
  • Davao Oriental
  • Davao de Oro
  • the eastern portion of Agusan del Sur (Prosperidad, San Francisco, Rosario, Bunawan, Trento, Santa Josefa, Veruela)

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

The wind speed forecast in the eastern section of Mindanao is moderate to strong moving in the northeast to north direction while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The rest of Mindanao will have light to moderate wind speed moving in the northeast to east direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

Luzon and Visayas will also have light to moderate wind speed moving in the east to southeast direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

The sun will rise by 5:29 a.m. and set by 6:16 p.m.

Crising is forecast to weaken into early morning on Sunday, 16 May while passing over Palawan and continue to dissipate.

However, due to the expected deterioration in the circulation of the tropical depression while traversing Mindanao, there is a possibility that the “CRISING” may weaken into a remnant low within in the next 36 to 48 hours.-- BAP, GMA News
