Signal No. 3 still up over Palawan areas as Odette moves over the West Philippine Sea

Storm signals remained over portions of Palawan as Typhoon Odette moved west-northwest over the West Philippine Sea, weather bureau PAGASA said on Friday night.

Based on PAGASA’s 8 p.m. weather bulletin, Odette was 85 kilometers north of Puerto Princesa City with sustained maximum winds of 150 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 205 kph.


Odette was moving westward northwestward at 30 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 was raised over:

  • the northern portion of Palawan (El Nido, Taytay, Araceli, Dumaran, Roxas, San Vicente, Puerto Princesa City); and
  • The Kalayaan Islands

Meanwhile, TCWS No. 2 was hoisted over:
the central portion of Palawan (Narra, Sofronio Española, Quezon, Aborlan, Rizal, Brooke's Point);

  • Calamian;
  • Cuyo; and
  • Cagayancillo Islands.


TCWS No. 1 was meanwhile raised over the rest of Palawan.

PAGASA warned that heavy to torrential rains would be experienced in Palawan including the Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands.

Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains would also be experienced over the Bicol Region, Quezon, and the rest of MIMAROPA; while light to moderate with at times heavy rains could be expected over the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, and the rest of CALABARZON.

While over the West Philippine Sea, Odette was forecast to move west-northwest and pass in the vicinity of Kalayaan Islands on Saturday.

The typhoon was expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday morning or early afternoon. — DVM, GMA News
