HINNAMNOR A SUPER TYPHOON

PAGASA: Scattered rains seen over Aurora, Calabarzon, Camarines Norte due to Gardo

Tropical Depression Gardo's trough would bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Aurora, Calabarzon, and Camarines Norte, weather service PAGASA reported in Tuesday-5 p.m. forecast.

At 3 p.m., Gardo was 1,195 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon with 55 kilometer per hour winds that can gust up to 70 kph.

Gardo was moving west-southwest at 15 kph.

According to PAGASA's projections, Gardo was forecast to move west-southwest in the near term, then move generally north-northwestward as it interacts with the tropical cyclone Hinnamnor.

While Gardo was expected to intensify into a tropical storm within the next 24 hours, the disturbance may degenerate into a remnant low by Thursday afternoon as Hinnamnor begins to assimilate its circulation.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country could expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

Winds over Luzon would be light to moderate from the northeast to the northwest with slight to moderate coastal conditions.

Over the Visayas, winds would be light to moderate from the northwest to southwest with slight to moderate seas.

Mindanao could meanwhile expect light to moderate winds from the south to southwest with slight to moderate seas.

Hinnamnor

PAGASA reported that Hinnamnor, which was still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 3 p.m., had intensified into a super typhoon, even as it continued to move westward at 30 kph.

Given its course and speed, Hinnamnor was still expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday evening.

The domestic name Henry will be assigned to the tropical cyclone once inside the PAR.

At 5 p.m. Hinnamnor was 1,485 kms east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon with 185 kph winds than can gust up to 230 kph. Hinnamnor had a central pressure of 935 hPa.

General outlook for Hinnamnor

On Tuesday, Hinnamnor will move generally westward over the sea south of Japan, then it will turn west-southwest on Wednesday while decelerating over the sea southeast of the Ryukyu Islands.

Its further deceleration is forecast to occur as it turns more southwestward over the northern Philippine Sea.

By Friday to Saturday, Hinnamnor may become almost stationary.

“Hinnamnor intensified into a Super Typhoon at 2 p.m. today. This tropical cyclone may continue to intensify over the sea south of Japan and may reach a peak intensity of 195 km/h,” the state weather bureau said.

Moreover, PAGASA said the extent of tropical cyclone winds of Hinnamnor may continue to expand in the coming days as it moves towards the northern Philippine Sea.

As such, the possibility of hoisting a Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal over Extreme Northern Luzon during the occurrence of this tropical cyclone within the PAR region was not ruled out.

“This tropical cyclone may bring rough seas over the northern and eastern seaboard of Luzon beginning late Thursday or early Friday. Such conditions may be risky for those using small seacraft. Mariners are advised to continue monitoring for updates,” PAGASA said. — DVM, GMA News
