Habagat to continue to bring scattered rain showers across the country

By GMA News

The Southwest Monsoon or Habagat will continue to bring scattered rain showers across the country, PAGASA said on Thursday.

Moreover, the state weather agency said Tropical Storm Nanmadol, which is outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), was moving west northwestward at 15 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h and gustiness up to 150 km/h.

As of 3 p.m., Nanmadol was located 1,670 km east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.

PAGASA earlier said that Nanmadol is expected to remain far from the Philippine landmass and will not directly affect the weather conditions in the country.

However, the Habagat, enhanced by the severe tropical storm, is expected to bring monsoon rains over the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next 24 hours.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Palawan, Mindoro Provinces, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-tawi due to the Habagat.

Affected residents were advised to prepare for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms, PAGASA said.

The wind speed forecast for the whole archipelago will be slight to moderate, while coastal water conditions will be slight to moderate, ranging from 0.6 meters to 2.5 meters. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
