Luis not likely to affect weather conditions; rains to be caused by Habagat, LPA

Tropical Depression Luis is not likely to directly affect the weather and sea conditions in the country, but rains are still expected due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and the low pressure area east of Mindanao, PAGASA said Wednesday.

Raising Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal over any land area in the country is also unlikely, PAGASA said in its 11 a.m. bulletin.

In a separate weather advisory, PAGASA said the Habagat will bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Palawan and Occidental Mindoro.

The LPA, located at 445 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, will bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Oriental.

“Under these conditions, scattered to widespread flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.

The LPA is less likely to develop into a tropical depression within 48 hours, according to PAGASA.

Luis

Meanwhile, as of 10 a.m., Luis was located at 1,100 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 1004 hPa while moving northwestward at 25 km/h.

PAGASA said Luis is seen to move north northwestward in the next 24 hours before turning generally northeastward Thursday evening.

It may exit the northern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility Thursday morning or early afternoon.

“This tropical cyclone is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm within the next 24 hours. Further intensification is likely while moving over the sea east of southern Ryukyu Islands,” PAGASA said. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
