Philippines to have shortest day, longest night on Dec. 22

The Philippines will experience the shortest day and longest night of the year on Thursday as the sun reaches its most southerly point in the sky due to December Solstice, PAGASA said.

“During the December Solstice, the northern hemisphere will experience the shortest day and longest night; this day also marks the first day of winter. Consequently, in the southern hemisphere, this day marks the first day of summer,” the state weather bureau said.

With this, shorter daylight hours will be experienced in the Northern Hemisphere, where the Philippines is located.

The December Solstice occurred earlier today, December 22, 2022, at 05:48 a.m.—Sherylin Untalan/LDF, GMA Integrated News
