Red rainfall warning up over Davao Oriental, 4 other areas in Mindanao

PAGASA raised the red rainfall warning at 7:20 a.m. on Saturday over Davao Oriental and four other areas in Mindanao due to rains brought about by the trough of a low pressure area (LPA) and the shear line.

The other areas placed under red rainfall warning are:

  • Davao de Oro: Monkayo, NewBataan, Maragusan, Compostela;
  • Surigao del Sur;
  • Surigao del Norte: Siargao, Socorro, Claver; and
  • Dinagat Islands.

These areas will have rains measuring more than 150,0000 drums/square kilometer.

"Serious FLOODING is expected in flood-prone area and LANDSLIDES in mountainous areas," PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, PAGASA raised the orange rainfall warning over Davao de Oro, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, and the rest of Surigao del Norte.

These areas will have rains measuring 75,000-150,000 drums/square kilometer.

PAGASA advised residents to prepare as flooding is threatening low-lying areas and landslides may occur in mountainous areas.

The yellow rainfall warning on the other hand was raised over:

  • Davao del Norte;
  • Davao City;
  • Misamis Occidental: Don Victoriano Chiongbian, Concepcion, Oroquieta, Aloran, Panaon, Josefina;
  • Misamis Oriental: Magsaysay, Gingoog, Medina, Talisayan; and
  • Camiguin.

These areas may have rains measuring 37,500-75,000 drums/square kilometer.

PAGASA said flooding is possible in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas.

It also advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to monitor the weather condition and await the next advisory to be issued at 10 a.m.

"All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards. Residents along mountain slopes are advised for possible landslides, mudslides, rock slides and flash floods. Keep monitoring for updates," the weather bureau said.

At 3 a.m. on Saturday, the LPA was estimated to be located at 1,000 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao while the effects of the northeast monsoon will be felt in parts of Luzon, PAGASA reported. —KG, GMA Integrated News
