Not yet summer despite higher temps, says PAGASA

By GMA Integrated News

The state weather bureau has started to record higher temperatures even as the Amihan season has yet to end, with even hotter conditions expected in the coming months.

According to PAGASA Weather Specialist Raymond Ordinario, the higher temperatures being felt could be due to less clouds and moisture coming from the Pacific Ocean.

“Kapag sobrang cloudless, halos walang kaulapan, ‘yung init ng araw nararamdaman natin, then kapag may kaunting pumapasok na moisture galing dito sa Pacific Ocean kaya medyo maalinsangan,” he said in a report by Katrina Son on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend.”

(When it is cloudless, nearly no clouds, we feel the heat of the sun and then when a bit of moisture comes from the Pacific Ocean, we feel the humidity.)

Latest data from PAGASA show that the hottest temperature in Quezon City was recorded at 31.9 degrees Celsius at 12 p.m. on Sunday, while the coldest was 25.6 degrees Celsius at 5:30 a.m.

The highest relative humidity was reported at 72% at 5 a.m., while the lowest was 50% at 12 p.m.

“Possible na mid-March pa totally titigil ‘yung Amihan, then dahan-dahan na magsisimula nang uminit,” Ordinario said.

“Most probably second to third week of March pa natin inaasahan na magsimula ulit uminit ‘yung madaling araw,” he added.
