Southwesterly Windflow to spur rains over Philippines —PAGASA

The Southwesterly Windflow, or the winds blowing from the southwest, may trigger rains across parts of the country on Monday, according to PAGASA.

Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms may be experienced in Palawan while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms may prevail in Metro Manila due to the weather system.

The state weather bureau warned that rain-induced flash floods and landslides may also occur in these areas during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, PAGASA continues to monitor Typhoon Mawar (international name) which is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It previously said the tropical storm might enter PAR by Friday or Saturday and will be given the local name “Betty”.

As of 3 p.m., the tropical cyclone was estimated at 2,275 kilometers off east of Mindanao. It is moving north-northwestward at 15 km/h and has sustained winds of 140 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 170 km/h.

The Department of Health on Monday urged the public to prepare for the tyhoon such as preparing emergency "go bag kits" and coordinating with local disaster officials. 

Meanwhile, forecast winds in the country will be light to moderate, to be accompanied by slight to moderate coastal water conditions.
