Southwesterly windflow will bring scattered rain over Southern Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao


The southwesterly windflow will be affecting the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao on Thursday, PAGASA reported.

The tropical cyclone that the weather bureau is monitoring remains outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

As of 3 a.m., Super Typhoon Mawar is 2,150 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center with gustiness of up to 230 km/hour and moving west northwestward at a speed of 15 km/hour.

Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, Zamboanga Peninsula, and BARMM will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwesterly windflow with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwesterly windflow and localized thunderstorms. Meanwhile, flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Heat Index

The forecasted heat index for Metro Manila will be at 40 degrees Celsius minimum and maximum of 42 degrees Celsius.

The highest heat index is expected to be felt in Aparri, Cagayan with 44 degrees Celsius.

The heat index is the measure of the temperature that a person feels in contrast to the actual air temperature.

Forecast Wind and Coastal Water Condition

The wind speed in the northern and eastern sections of Luzon will be moderate moving in the northeast to east direction while coastal waters will remain moderate.

The wind speed for the rest of Luzon is light to moderate moving in the southwest to south direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

For the rest of the country, wind speed will be light to moderate moving in the southwest to northwest direction with slight to moderate coastal waters.
