Metro Manila, 23 other areas to experience dangerous heat index

Metro Manila on Tuesday is among 24 areas forecasted to experience a dangerous heat index.

PAGASA forecasted heat index at 42 degrees Celsius at the NAIA, Pasay City station and 40 degrees Celsius at the Science Garden in Quezon City.

The highest heat index for the day will be in Dagupan City, Pangasinan with 46 degrees Celsius.

The other areas with a dangerous heat index on Tuesday are: Laoag, Ilocos Norte (42°C); Aparri, Cagayan (43°C); Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (42°C); ISU Echague, Isabela (42°C); Clark Airport, Pampanga (42°C); Munoz, Nueva Ecija (42°C); Baler, Aurora (42°C); Casiguran, Aurora (42°C).

Also included in the list are: Sangley Point, Cavite (42°C); Ambulong Tanauan, Batangas (42°C); Coron, Palawan (42°C); San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (42°C); Puerto Princesa City, Palawan (42°C); Aborlan, Palawan (43°C); Virac, Catanduanes (42°C); Masbate City, Masbate (42°C); Pili, Camarines Sur (42°C); Roxas City, Capiz (43°C); Iloilo City, Iloilo (43°C); Dumangas, Iloilo (42°C); Catarman, Northern Samar (42°C); Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur (43°C). 

The ridge of a high pressure area (HPA) will extend over the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon on Tuesday, PAGASA said.

Davao Region, South Cotabato, and Sarangani will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough of a Low Pressure Area (LPA) with possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Based on the heat index chart, the public is advised to take precaution against heat cramps and heat exhaustion, and heat stroke is possible with continued exposure.

The heat index is a measure of how hot it really feels when factoring in the relative humidity at a given location.

In order to prevent heat-related illnesses, the weather bureau is advising the public to do the following:

  • Limit the time outdoors
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Avoid tea, coffee, soda or liquor
  • Wear umbrellas, hats, sleeved clothing outdoors
  • Schedule heavy-duty activities at start or end of the day when it's cooler

 

The wind speed forecast for the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon is light to moderate moving in the east to southeast direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

The rest of the country will experience light to moderate wind speed moving in the east to northeast direction with slight to moderate coastal waters.
