Number coding suspended on Holy Wednesday, April 17, and Monday, April 22, 2019

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced Monday the suspension of the number coding scheme or the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program on Holy Wednesday, April 17, and Monday, April 22, 2019.

“Magsu-suspend tayo ng coding. Ina-anticipate natin na ‘yung government offices will be suspending work or half day lang sa Wednesday. Sinuspend na namin ang number coding (sa) Wednesday and Monday para sa balikan,” MMDA traffic manager Bong Nebrija said in an interview with Dobol B sa News TV.

An advisory posted on MMDA's Facebook account said the number coding scheme is automatically lifted on Maundy Thursday, April 18; Good Friday, April 19; Black Saturday, April 20; and Easter Sunday, April 21.

The number coding scheme is set to resume on Tuesday, April 23.

“The suspension of the number coding is to ensure that there is enough public utility vehicles to serve commuters heading to their respective provinces and allow motorists to use their vehicles going to their destinations up to their return to Metro Manila after the Lenten break,” the advisory  stated.

Nebrija said the public can still expect a big volume of vehicles on the road until Wednesday.

“This Monday to Wednesday expect na magkakaroon ng volume. Makakaasa tayo ng pagluwag sa Thursday na po. ‘Yung ibang may pasok pa magla-last minute, Thursday ng madaling araw, umaga baka abutan pa sa pila,” he said.

Nebrija said the good news is there are no more road constructions that will obstruct the flow of traffic.

“Walang construction sa kalsada so tuloy-tuloy tayo, walang obstruction. Lahat ng reblocking tinapos na nu'ng weekend,” he said. —Amita Legaspi/KG, GMA News
