Road closures in Manila for Marcos inauguration start

Authorities started implementing road closures on Sunday night as part of security measures for the June 30 inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Starting 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, the following roads around the National Museum in Manila were closed to motorists, according to a report by Mai Bermudez on GMA News' Unang Balita on Monday:

• Maria Orosa St. from TM Kalaw to Padre Burgos  General Luna St. from Padre Burgos-Muralla St.

The above-mentioned roads will be closed to traffic until 11 p.m. of June 30. 

Marcos is set to take his oath of office at the National Museum.

Meanwhile, the following roads in Manila will also be closed on June 30 from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m.:

• Ayala Boulevard
• Victoria Street from Taft Avenue to Muralla Street

Affected vehicles may take the following routes, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA):

From Roxas Boulevard northbound:

• Turn right on UN Avenue or TM Kalaw Avenue

• Turn left on Taft Avenue

From Roxas Boulevard eastbound:

• Left on TM Kalaw or UN Avenue
• Right on Taft Avenue

Meanwhile, the following roads near Malacañang and the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City will also be closed to motorists on the following dates:

• Mendiola Street: June 29, 12:01 a.m., to June 30, 11 p.m.
• Jalandoni St., PICC, Pasay City: June 30, 4 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• Legarda Street from San Rafael to Figueras St., Manila: June 30, 1 to 11 p.m.

The MMDA said it will deploy 2,000 personnel to man traffic on June 30.

Aside from MMDA traffic enforcers, personnel from the Manila Police District, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), City Government of Manila, and the Presidential Security Group will also be deployed on that day to ensure security, peace, and order.

Meanwhile, the National Museum is closed to the public until July 5.

Drones will be prohibited from flying inside a one-kilometer radius of the National Museum, the NCRPO said. —KG, GMA News
