Jaclyn Jose reflects on parenthood, letting kids make their own way

Jaclyn Jose on Sunday took to Instagram to give her two cents on parenthood, saying she did her best to raise her kids to be happy and that she was not a "controlling" parent.

Jaclyn, who raised Andi Eigenmann and Gwen Garimond Ilagan Guck as a single mom, also posted a throwback photo to accompany her thoughts.

"...I am a single mom of 2, I worked so hard to make them feel that everything was okay," she said.

"Napuputulan ng ilaw o 'di makabayad rental, but that doesn't mean na ipapasa ko problema ko sa mga anak ko... I haven't gotten a single centavo sa mga anak ko," Jaclyn added.

The award-winning actress said she is confident that she raised her children well.

"Kakayanin ko lahat para sa mga anak ko. I did all my best to raise them. Happy lang...no controlling para 'pag time naman nila gawin nila naman para sa mga anak nila," Jaclyn said.

She also made a pitch for parents letting their offspring make their own way, even letting them stumble and rise back up again.

"Di ako nakikisawsaw sa issue just giving my point let them at the end they will [be] more responsible...us parents must understand our children let them leave madadapa yan pero babangon kung hahayaan natin sila," she added.

Jaclyn also urged parents not to  to never force their children to pay for their dreams because they have their own as well.

"'Wag i-obligate your children to pay your dreams, they have their own too."

In an interview with GMA News Online in 2018, the veteran actress said one of the lessons she has learned from being a grandmother is to let go of her firstborn Andi and allow her to do things on her own.

"I need to let go of Andi, because she's at the age na, she knows what she's doing. She can take care of herself na and her daughter; she's doing well in taking care of her daughter," she said.

Andi now has two young children of her own: 8-year-old Ellie and Baby Lilo. She lives in Siargao Island with her partner Philmar Alipayo.

She has also been active on social media, posting updates about her family's island life.
