Rocco Nacino praises strength of frontliners amid COVID-19 threat

Rocco Nacino had a glimpse of what it is like to be a soldier manning the checkpoints to implement the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

The navy reservist spent his 33rd birthday distributing food and water to military personnel stationed in the metro and felt for their situation.

"To see them, nakaramdam ako nang kahit papaano awa eh. Kasi sa totoo lang nung nandun kami mga 11 am tirik na tirik na 'yung araw. They were in uniform," Rocco said.

"Suot ko 'yung navy uniform ko at grabe na 'yung pawis ko so what more pa sa kanila na buong umaga na andun sila, kailangan hanggang gabi nakapuwesto sila sa mga checkpoints nila," he added.

But the "Descendants of the Sun" actor saw also something positive in the brief encounter.

"Naramdaman ko 'yung strength tsaka hope na meron sila," he said. "Nung nag-uusap kami sabi ko, 'Mga sirs, mga ma'ams, kaya n'yo 'yan, konti na lang 'yan."

Rocco saluted the sacrifices of all the frontliners, especially healthcare workers, who continue to perform their duties to battle the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

"Ang pinaka puwede nating gawin is to cheer them on. Best way talaga is to just stay at home," he said. "Sa mga kailangan talagang lumabas, please follow the guidelines. At sumunod. 'Yung iba, magsabi ng totoo sa mga checkpoints."

He also said those who wished to do more can donate to the Kapuso Foundation.

As of Tuesday, the Philippines ha 552 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 35 deaths. --MGP, GMA News
