Carol Banawa is now a frontliner nurse in the US amid COVID-19 threat

Carol Banawa is currently serving as a frontliner nurse in the United States of America amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

On her Instagram account, the former singer posted a photo of herself wearing a face shield and mask while dressed in a scrub suit on Black Saturday.

"New gear. Just got word that I will be floating out of my home unit starting next week to train and help out other units in the next few weeks," she wrote in the caption.

Carol said she is preparing for the incoming surge of COVID-19 patients.

"Grateful to receive this added protection just in time. Here we go," she wrote.

The 39-year-old singer studied nursing and graduated as a summa cum laude in Northern Virginia Community College in Washington D.C. in 2018.

Carol left showbiz in 2003 and migrated to US with her husband Ryan Crisostomo and their two children.

She is the voice behind the well-known Tagalog songs "Tanging Yaman," "Bakit Di Totohanin," at "Iingatan Ka."

According to the World Health Organization's situation report as of April 12, there are 492,881 COVID-19 positive cases in the US with 18,516 deaths. --Jannielyn Bigtas/MGP, GMA News
