Gary V’s two-night online benefit concert fetches P6M for COVID-19 relief

Gary V’s two-night “Hopeful” concert held over the weekend on Facebook live has raised a whopping total of P6 million for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) relief efforts.

The Sunday edition of the Filipino singer’s Facebook Live, which brought fans from all over the world together, fetched at least P3,516,477 million, adding to the P2.5 million raised on Saturday.

The numbers were confirmed to GMA News Online by Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, one of the two beneficiaries of the show; Shining Light Foundation is the other.

It aims "to support front liners' and essential workers' needs as well as feeding programs for those who have lost the means to support themselves during this lockdown,” Valenciano said.

“The online concert is my way of thanking fans, friends, and supporters and it is a tribute to the unsung heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.

Artists who have been holding benefit online shows for different sectors of society affected by COVID-19 have been seeing the generosity of their fans. Lea Salonga raised nearly P1.8M when she played Ryan Cayabyab's Bayanihan Musikahan.

"Together At Home" meanwhile raised more than $128M. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
