Janine Gutierrez didn't need any gun training for 'Babae at Baril' role

Janine Gutierrez snagged the Best Actress award at the 2019 QCinema International Film Festival for her phenomenal performance in Rae Red's psycho-thriller "Babae at Baril."

But did you know she was able to do it without any firearms training?

A lot of films typically require a lot of target shooting and combat training for the actors, but that was not the case for "Babae at Baril."

Janine portrayed a timid saleslady whose life turns upside-down after finding a gun on her doorstep.

It was only when the character chanced upon the deadly weapon that she realized she could do anything she wants, whenever and however she pleased.

"Actually wala kasi si babae ang kuwento nga niya is napulot lang niya 'yung baril, so hindi talaga siya marunong and wala talaga siyang alam," Janine explained during an interview over Zoom.

"Direk (Rae Red) actually preferred na kung ano na lang 'yung knowledge mo bilang isang walang alam sa baril, dapat ganu'n din ang makita kasi ganun 'yung nangyari talaga," she said.

"Babae at Baril" is set to open this year's New York Asian Film Festival.

"I'm just really happy that it's the opening film, it's a Filipino film, and it's a female-led project, so I'm so excited na mas marami in the US would be able to see it," Janine said. —Margaret Claire Layug/MGP, GMA News
