Janine Gutierrez eyes more projects on streaming platforms

Unlike some who are afraid of the unknown, Janine Gutierrez sees an opportunity in one of the developments brought about by the lockdowns—the rise of online streaming.

In fact, the award-winning Kapuso actress would love to take part in a production made especially for streaming.

During a quick Zoom interview on Friday, Janine expressed appreciation at how sites like Netflix allowed many people across the globe to appreciate Filipino films even with a pandemic going on.

“I think it’s a great time for Filipino films, especially now that there are so many on Netflix and other streaming platforms,” Janine told GMA News Online.

“Palagi ko kasi dati naririnig ’yung comment na, ‘oh ang ganda ng pelikula, parang hindi Pinoy ang gumawa,’ and I think that’s a [misconception]. Siguro ’yung mga nagsasabi noon just haven’t seen enough Filipino films,” she said.

“So I think it’s a great time to also dedicate some of your movie watching time to local films, kasi ang dami talagang magaganda.”

When asked about her thoughts regarding the apparent shift of the entertainment industry to streaming platforms, Janine admitted that she was kind of expecting it.

“I’ve always felt na doon naman talaga tayo papunta and you can’t stop that kind of change eh. You just really have to adapt. Kung hindi mo siya maunahan then sabayan mo, so that’s really where everyone is going,” she said.

Janine happens to be a “huge fan” of streaming sites.

“Ako, personally, I’m such a huge Netflix fan and all these streaming apps, and Hayu. As in sobrang na-e-enjoy ko rin,” she admitted.

Some of Janine’s films like “Elise” and “Spirit of the Glass 2” are currently being streamed by Netflix.

The versatile Kapuso actress said she would be open to do a movie or television show for a streaming platform.

“I would love, like, a mystery thriller, like a ‘Gone Girl,’ or you know that Nicole Kidman movie (‘To Die For’) … she’s  a news reporter tapos murderer pala siya … ’yung mga seeming na characters, tapos biglang may twist … Gusto ko ng gano'n!”

Janine Gutierrez was named Best Actress at the 2019 QCinema International Film Festival for her role on “Babae at Baril.”
