Ben&Ben renames official fandom to ‘Liwanag’

Ben&Ben renamed its official fan club from “Lights” to “Liwanag” following a conflict with an existing K-Pop fandom with the same name.

In a post shared on its social media accounts Friday, the OPM band said that after listening to their fans’ suggestions, they decided to change the name to “Liwanag” to honor their Filipino heritage.

“Higit sa lahat, kayo ang Liwanag namin,” the band shared.

The nine-member band initially named their fan club “Lights” after their song “Limasawa Street,” where Limasawa meant “a place of light.”

The group, known for their hit songs “Araw-araw” and “Pagtingin,” also shared that it chose the name to remind everyone that we “can be bearers of hope in these dark times.”

However, Ben&Ben retracted the name on Thursday after they found out it was already being used by fans of K-Pop quartet Highlight. 

“We apologize for the confusion and dismay that this has caused to the parties involved,” said the band. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
