5 reasons why you need to watch ‘I Can See You: Love on the Balcony’ next week

GMA-7 is bringing you a different kind of love story with its new drama anthology “I Can See You” starting next week.

Alden Richards and Jasmine Curtis-Smith are leading the show’s week-long pilot episode “Love on the Balcony,” a heartwarming tale about a young nurse who tries to navigate life in the new normal with the help of her charming neighbor.

But, apart from the unique story and amazing cast, here are five more reasons why you should witness the first of four beautiful stories to be presented on “I Can See You” every week.

1. It’s about life in the “new normal.”

“Love on the Balcony” may be a love story, but the characters are based on ordinary Filipinos whose lives were changed dramatically by the pandemic.

Alden’s character Iñigo, for example, is a wedding videographer who goes through a ton of problems and meets someone who can help him.

“Meron siyang dinadala sa sarili niya na ayaw masyadong pag-usapan even with his best friend … but, as soon as he meets Leah, everything will change,” Alden shared in a recent Zoom conference.

2. The main character is a healthcare worker.

Jasmine plays Leah, a young and hardworking nurse.

The “Descendants of the Sun” star admires her character’s inspiring determination and her ability to keep a positive outlook despite difficult times.

She also hopes her character will somehow provide a glimpse into the lives of health workers and other frontliners who risk their lives every day and are sometimes not given the treatment they deserve.

3. It’s Alden’s acting “comeback.”

“Love on the Balcony” was the first time Alden got to act on a TV drama in six months.

One thing’s for sure: Asia’s Multimedia Star really missed acting.

As he said in an earlier Zoom conference: “Nae-excite akong gawin ’to kasi ... it’s a new concept for me na weekly teleserye. Maganda ’yung material, I’ve read the script already, and parang nakaka-miss lang ding bumalik sa acting after almost six months.”

4. It’s Alden’s first TV pairing with Jasmine.

Asia’s Multimedia Star is happy to finally share a TV screen with Jasmine.

“I’ve always known Jasmine as a great actress. That’s why I really wanted to work with her, and it goes to show nu’ng nasimulan na namin itong ‘Love on the Balcony,’ walang nagbago,” Alden told reporters during the Zoom call on Friday.

“She still gets better at her craft every day and, siguro, being an actor as well, that’s what I look for in a partner. ’Yung seryoso sa trabaho, ’yung gusto ’yung ginagawa niya, kasi that brings out the best in me as much as I bring out the best in that person, as well,” he added.

5. The story screams: “Love is always possible.”

We all know the past few months have not been the kindest for many, so here’s a story that says, “love is always possible.”

According to Alden: “Siguro kasi, very uncertain ’yung times and, because pandemic nga siya, parang wala tayong ibang concern but to live every day, to survive every day, parang hindi na natin maiisip yung love.”

“But, really, love is consistent. Kumbaga, hindi siya nawawala. Even though meron tayong pinagdadaanan, kahit gaano pa kalalang situation ’yun at either life or death situation, it’s still there,” he added.
