Alden Richards conducts relief efforts for typhoon victims in Marikina

Gone are the days when gaming is considered an impediment to a young person’s success.

Alden Richards proved that gaming can be helpful and productive as he distributed relief goods to the victims of Typhoon Ulysses in Marikina on Thursday.  

"Katas ng paglalaro ang tulong ngayong araw," said Asia's Multimedia Star.  

Residents of Barangay Malanday and Tumana in Marikina were among the hardest hit by Typhoon Ulysses. The two areas, nearest to the Marikina River, were massively damaged by the recent great flood. 

“Isa talaga yung Marikina sa mga pinakamatindi yung naging damage because of the typhoon, so dito kami nag-decide na ibigay ang mga donations natin,” Alden said.

Despite the effects of the calamity,  no sullen faces were seen, at least not where the queue leading to the Asia’s Multimedia Star.

Alden, clad in a shirt that has his own gaming logo, personally handed out white plastic bags that contained rice, canned goods and toiletries.

“Yun din naman yung purpose ko talaga, why I started gaming eh. Aside from para makita ng mga tao yung bagay na that I enjoy doing, its also yung mga nakukuha natin na mga stars, mga tips thats what we call it, talagang mas gusto ko siya na ginagamit for good use. So this is it. This is the first charity work ng AR Gaming.”

AR Gaming is Alden's gaming channel on Facebook, an initiative he put up during quarantine period.

And not one to flex his benevolent initiatives, but Alden made this one an exception, his way to show appreciation to those who made this undertaking possible.

“Nagkaroon po tayo ng charity stream last week for AR Gaming para sa mga nasalanta ng bagyong Ulysses. Ito yung mga nakalap nating donations from the viewers tapos ipapamigay natin ito agad," he said.

"Actually marami naman sa nakakakilala sa akin that I don’t publicize my charity works but I wanted to be transparent to the viewers, dun sa mga nag-donate kasi it came from their own pockets. Gusto kong ipakita na may pupuntahan yung dinonate nila,” adds Alden. — LA, GMA News
