Ken Chan says his ‘Ang Dalawang Ikaw’ character is the hardest role he has played

Ken Chan revealed that his character on “Ang Dalawang Ikaw” was the hardest role he had played in his entire career at GMA.

During a media conference on Thursday, the actor said he portrayed a man who was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder (DID) and had two distinct personalities.

“This is the hardest role I worked on in my entire career at GMA,” Ken said in Filipino. “I thought ‘Special Tatay’ was the most difficult one, but I was wrong. This is the hardest role I have played.”

Ken said there were instances when he had a hard time letting go of his character even after he was done filming.

“It’s hard to let go of the characters because I’m not just acting out one character,” he said.

He recalled one time when costar Rita Daniela asked him why he was in character while talking to her when they were just on the set.

“She was wary because my words were becoming arrogant. I had to pinch myself and say, ‘wait, I have to let go’ because it’s hard to let go of the characters,” said Ken.

It was a difficult character to portray, said the actor, especially because the series tackled a sensitive topic.

“I’m so proud of GMA. They did a very brave thing. We all know that here in the Philippines, the knowledge on dissociative identity disorder isn’t that widely spread,” he said.

He hoped that “Ang Dalawang Ikaw” would become an instrument for the public to be more aware of what people with DID go through.

Director Jorron Monroy also shared that one of the things to watch out for on the upcoming series was the realness of the dialogues between the characters.

“This is one of the scripts I made where the conversations are more grounded on reality,” he said.

“Ang Dalawang Ikaw,” which also stars Rita, Anna Vicente, Dominic Roco, and Lianne Valentin, revolves around a man who is diagnosed with DID and his loved ones who try to find a place in his life.

The drama series will premiere on June 21. – RC, GMA News
