Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd details artistic process to Heart Evangelista

Heart Evangelista's guest for her latest vlog is very special  — Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd!

The pair recently worked on an art collaboration, and they got to talking about their artistic processes and work as painters in the vlog.

In her interview, the Kapuso actress and style icon asked Brandon about his inspirations and drive.

“Like for me, [I] have to be extremely sad or extremely happy to paint. Anything in between is a struggle for me,” Heart said.

Brandon said that he "definitely paints and makes music when I'm sad, but I also paint and make music when I'm happy."

"But I've learned to paint and make music in the interim as well, because there's really interesting material in that interim," he added.

The musician said that he understands how a lot of artists get more creative on the two extreme ends of emotions, but that he personally thinks he gets to "exercise" during the interim between extreme sadness or extreme happiness.

So it's like you’re training. And so if you do tip into one of those extremes, then you’re practiced, and you're ready for maybe those moments of brilliance that they want to come through.”

Heart related this to being an actor, where they have to work to get into different moods and feelings.

“I'm fascinated by people that can, like, cry on contact, you know. Do you have this skill?” Brandon asked Heart.

“I don't want to say I do because you might think I’m [bleeped] up, but I do,” Heart said and they laughed.

“So I’m kind of miserable in a way, I'm kind of messed up in a beautiful way but I'm fine with it,” she added.

Heart and Brandon first met in 2021 to start working on their collaborative project. This project is done under the Moonlight Arts Collective, a virtual gallery co-founded by Brandon.
