Matt Lozano says 'Voltes V: Legacy' helped him recover from depression, accept his body

By GMA Integrated News

"Voltes V: Legacy" served as a "life-saver" for Matt Lozano amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with Nelson Canlas for "24 Oras," Tuesday, Matt said working on the series helped him cope with depression.

The Sparkle actor also said that playing Big Bert helped him embrace his body type.

"Sanay naman na ako sa katawan ko. But I'm not saying na hindi ako magbabago sa mga susunod na taon," he said. "Hindi ako confident pero mas komportable ako dahil unti-unti naa-accept ko 'yung sarili ko."

"Hindi lang dahil sa character eh, iba rin 'yung ano ng mga tao sa paligid ko na, 'Kahit mataba ka you look nice,' Because I'm happy," he added.

Matt, who likes singing and playing the guitar, had to learn wielding a staff to prepare for his role as Big Bert.

The character is the middle Armstrong brother, along with Steve and Little Jon. He pilots the Volt Panzer, which becomes the torso of the Voltes V robot.

"Medyo mahirap din 'yung role na Big Bert at the same time nakaka-cope up ako kasi medyo similar 'yung personality naming dalawa," he said.

"Si Big Bert ay mapagmahal, malakas, pero meron siyang big heart eh sa family, sa friends."

"Voltes V: Legacy" will premiere on GMA Telebabad on Monday, May 8.
