Is Iza Calzado getting ready for a career in Hollywood?

Kagagaling lang ni Iza Calzado sa Amerika kung saan kumuha ng acting classes sa Los Angeles.

Wala raw siyang proyektong pinaghahandaan kaya siya umalis at nakapag-aral.

Sabi ni Iza, “It’s better to be prepared. I took Improved Classes, Audition Technique Class, Speech Class… I’m just preparing for my future. Why do you have to wait for a role to come to you, why don’t you prepare for it?"

“Actually, I didn’t study a specific acting course, I studied an audition technique, which is totally different. We’re used to auditioning here na, di ba?”

Isa nga si Iza sa maituturing na pinakamahusay na aktres ngayon.

Reaksiyon niya, “Thank you for saying that I’m good, but I always think there’s so much room for improvement. I’m not where I want to be as an actress but I’m happy. I mean, I’m happy where I am in terms of my growth, but I wish I didn’t have to go all the way to L.A. to take classes."

“Doon, ang daming klase na available for actors; dito, wala. Meron dito, pero parang two-week course. Ang pagkakaiba, doon ang courses nila, eight weeks, six weeks, pero once a week. It’s really for people who are working there.”

HOLLYWOOD CAREER?

Ayaw naman munang sagutin ni Iza kung may Hollywood agent na ba siya sa Amerika at kung nag-audition ba siya roon.

“Basta, huwag muna nating pag-usapan ‘yan,” nakangiti niyang sabi.

May hinihintay ba siya kung sakaling anumang proyekto?

“I actually booked a film when I was there, it’s an independent Filipino film and it’s going to be a thriller. He’s the only Filipino director who is a member of DGA [Directors Guild of America], so I’m going to do this with Jake Macapagal (Metro Manila).”

Kailan niya ito sisimulan?

Sagot ng aktres, “Hindi pa naka-set talaga, so it’s good. Something came up on my trip there, sometimes it’s all about being at the right place at the right time.”

Dahil tila may inaabot si Iza na Hollywood dream, mukhang ang pagpapakasal niya so longtime boyfriend na si Ben Wintle ay matatagalan pa.

“Ano ba ang pinu-pursue ko?” natawang sabi niya.

“You know, you can pursue and get married, and it’s just something that, I think, I shouldn’t be the only one doing this. It’s just a matter of 'Okay, what can I do?' I don’t even have a paper to work there… okay, I don’t have time. Hindi nga ako maka-commit, e, I’m just preparing to…

“What if, one day, I want to actually move there for a certain period of time? So, I’d rather be prepared and live there. Para siyang ocular inspection, di ba, ang hilig natin sa term na ‘yan.”

Kinu-consider niya na pagkatapos ng lahat dito ay maninirahan siya sa ibang bansa?

“I’m considering a lot of things, yes,” sagot ni Iza.

Bagamat isang foreigner ang boyfriend niya, si Ben Wintle, hindi naman daw ito taga-Los Angeles.

Ayon kay Iza, “Could be London, could be somewhere... I don’t know. I just want to go beyond. Could be regional, could be Southeast Asia. I just feel that we should keep expanding our audience, our market."
