Adele's former trainer speaks up on singer's weight loss: 'It was about getting her healthy'

Adele's former personal trainer spoke up after the singer's drastic weight loss sparked a debate on how society should react to someone's body transformation.

When the singer shared a photo of herself to mark her 32nd birthday, many netizens were quick to send compliments but others thought celebrating it were akin to body-shaming.

With Adele herself becoming a target of "negative commentary and fat-phobic accusations," London-based trainer Pete Geracimo set the record straight on the singer's fitness journey.

"She did not lose the weight to make others feel bad about themselves," he said on Instagram. "This personal transformation has nothing to do with me or you. It’s about Adele and how she wants to live her life."

Geracimo said that Adele's "metamorphosis" was "not for album sales, publicity or to be a role model." It was just simply for herself and for her son, Angelo.

"When Adele and I started our journey together, it was never about getting super skinny," he said. "It was about getting her healthy. Especially post pregnancy and post surgery."

The trainer said the Adele started training and made better food choices to get ready for a grueling 13-month tour following the release of the "25" album.

He added that with the recent changes in her personal life, it was only natural for the singer to have "a new sense of self."

Adele and her husband of eight years, Simon Konecki, announced their separation last month.

Geracimo hopes that people would come to appreciate the hard work Adele did to improve herself to benefit her and her family.

"She has not changed from the Adele we grew up with and have loved. There is just a little less of her to go around," he said. —Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
