Lea Michele apologizes after ‘Glee’ costars accuse her of racism, bullying–report

After several fellow “Glee” cast members accused Lea Michele of racism and bullying, the actress finally spoke up and apologized for her past behavior.

In an exclusive statement shared with People on Wednesday, Lea said: “While I don’t remember ever making this specific statement and I have never judged others by their background or color of their skin, that’s not really the point. What matters is that I clearly acted in ways which hurt other people.”

She added: “Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologize for my behavior and for any pain which I have caused.”

The Broadway singer and actress shared that the past weeks have taught her to listen more and learn from other people’s perspectives, assuring the public that these past months allowed her to “reflect on my own shortcomings.”

Just last week, Lea tweeted in support of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement.

However, this did not sit well with former cast mate Samantha Ware, who retweeted Lea’s post.

“Remember when you made my first television gig a living hell?!?! Cause I’ll never forget. I believe you told everyone that if you had the opportunity you would ‘shit in my wig!’ among other traumatic microaggressions that made me question a career in Hollywood.”

Alex Newell, who guested on the show, retweeted Ware’s post with a GIF, saying. “Get her, Jade!”

Another costar, Davier Snell, said Lea didn’t even let him sit at the table with other cast members because he “didn’t belong there.”

Meanwhile, Amber Riley, who played one of the major roles in “Glee,” also sent a not so subtle message.

After receiving backlash, Lea explained that she tweeted in the past in support of the communities of color.

“But the responses I received to what I posted have made me also focus specifically on how my own behavior towards fellow cast members was perceived by them,” she said.

A source close to Lea also told People on Wednesday that Lea has “reached out to a few of her former cast members and spoke to a couple of them.”

The actress shared that since she’s pregnant and on her way to become a mother, she’s learning to be a “real model” for her child.

“I listened to these criticisms and I am learning and while I am very sorry, I will be better in the future from this experience,” she added. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
