Singer Prince Royce tests positive for COVID-19, urges public to 'not let guard down'
Dominican-American singer Prince Royce revealed that he tested positive with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The singer and songwriter, known for his hit songs "Back It Up" and "Stuck on a Feeling," made the announcement on his social media accounts on Friday, sharing that he is already on his 12th day since his symptoms began.
"This is something I never thought would happen to me, but it did...I thought that taking precaution by washing my hands and wearing a mask was going to be enough, and it was not," he said in a video on Twitter.
In another post, he said that since he had mild symptoms, he could have spread the disease to other people had he not gotten tested and found out.
"I share this with you today to ask you please not let down your guard - this virus is very real and we can have it and spread it without even knowing," he said.
He urged the public: "If you don’t have to leave home to work or get together with others, don’t do it."
The singer also gave a message to younger people, saying that taking safety precautions "is more than just about taking care of ourselves, it is about taking care of others, older people and those with compromised immune systems."
Prince said, "Please let’s take this seriously and act responsibly and with compassion. Let’s all take care of each other."
As of Friday, the United States has over 2,713,195 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 128,421 deaths, according to a tally from official sources compiled by AFP.
At least 10,769,890 cases have been registered in 196 countries and territories already.
