Kanye West says he will be running for president of the United States

Kanye West will be running for the President of the United States.

The rapper took to Twitter on Saturday to announce quite an unusual piece of news, saying "we must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States!"

He used the hashtag #2020VISION in his tweet.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk quickly replied to say Kanye had his "full support."

As of this writing, Kanye's tweet garnered over 327,000 retweets and more than 609,300 likes. "Kanye" has also been on the Twitter trending list.

It is not yet clear if Kanye was serious about his claims on bidding for the presidential seat or if he had filed official documents.

The American rapper is a vocal supporter of US President Donald Trump.

According to an October 2019 report on Agence France-Presse, Kanye has already shown interest in sitting on the presidential seat after he said he would one day help the Oval Office in a lengthy interview that touched on subjects from porn to Trump.

"There will be a time when I will be the president of the US, and I will remember... any founder that didn't have the capacity to understand culturally what we were doing," Kanye was then quoted.

According to reports, his announcement tweet has been seen as an apparent challenge to Trump and his presumptive Democratic rival, former Vice President Joe Biden.
