‘Enola Holmes’ star Louis Partridge plays unique leading man role

By KAELA MALIG,GMA News

Louis Partridge’s role on “Enola Holmes” isn’t something you see on screen every day.

Refreshingly, Louis’ character Tewksbury isn’t the typical leading man. He doesn’t put on a macho heroic stance, pushing the female characters on the sideline and saying, “I got this.”

Instead, he’s warm, sweet, has a soft spot for flowers and has no problem whatsoever with being saved by the heroine, Enola.

During a media roundtable interview on Wednesday, Louis shared that he loved Tewksbury’s innocence most of all.

“I like his innocence and I think it’s easy to see him as an entitled rap but he’s really soft in the inside,” Louis said. “He’s a bit lost inside. I find it really sweet. Finding Enola really helps him.”

According to Louis, the Tewksbury character was initially a “bit sort of pathetic” but they decided to bring warmth to him and give him more character.

“Enola has to really, really like him and want to go save him because if he’s just this sort of burden on her, she’s not gonna bother saving him. So we gave him a little bit more of warmth which wasn’t originally in the script,” he revealed.

The young actor said the film and its characters gave him a sense of empowerment.

“You don’t have to fit in,” he explained. “You can be an Enola basically and you can be a Tewksbury who isn’t a typical man, who loves his flowers, treehouses.”

For the upcoming mystery adventure film, Millie Bobby Brown takes on the lead role of Enola, Sherlock and Mycroft’s teenage sister. Aside from outwitting her clever brothers, she meets Tewksbury in the most surprising way and ends up crossing paths with him throughout the film.

Directed by Harry Bradbeer, the new film also stars Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin.

Based on the beloved book series by Nancy Springer, “Enola Holmes” will premiere on Netflix Sept. 23. – RC, GMA News
