South Korean stars Bae Suzy and Nam Joo-hyuk, who will be starring as each other’s love interest in the upcoming youth romantic comedy series “Start-Up,” have talked about their chemistry on-screen.

“When I heard it because we call our series a youthful romance I thought that will really be a great story and also something that I can only do at a particular at this age and at this time,” Joo-hyuk said in a virtual press conference with media from all over the world including GMA News Online.

The actor said during the first few episodes, they didn’t have a lot of scenes together. “We had to act in our separate scenes and then at one point we got to meet and our chemistry was really good and I think this is something that the director really knows a lot about,” he said.

“Start-Up” director Oh Choong-hwan said he was proud of himself for casting Suzy and Joo-hyuk together.

“These two, they’re just so beautiful together … as a person who’s always behind the monitor, I look at them on screen and I think to myself, I hope that the world remembers these two beautiful and sparkly people on the screen together,” the director said.

“It’s not that there’s anything particular or special, it’s just the sunlight seen in these two young people together and I hope that the audience will be able to identify and enjoy seeing them together on screen,” he added.

For Suzy, she said the first time she met Joo-hyuk on set, “there was really great energy.”

“He had a lot of great energy as well and I think that created a lot of synergy for me and between us,” the actress added.

Suzy said as he saw how much Joo-hyuk worked hard and naturally became the character he portrayed, she was also “able to really immerse myself in my role as well, thanks to him.”

“He’s so bubbly, bright, and I think the screen with both of our characters appearing together it’s just so bubbly and beautiful and you just want to cheer for them,” she added.

The story follows four young people who are chasing their dreams in a place called “Sand Box.” Seo Dal-mi (Suzy), whose dream is to become the Steve Jobs of Korea despite not having a fancy background, shows her passion and energy to reach her goal, having had a wide-range of experience from her part-time jobs.

Joo-hyuk plays Nam Do-san, the founder of Samsan Tech and a Math genius who used to be the pride of his family. He later meets Dal-mi who mistakes him for her first love. He then works his way up to turn the misunderstanding into reality.

Joining Joo-hyuk and Suzy are Korean actors Kim Seon-ho and Kang Han-na.

Seon-ho portrays Han Ji-pyeong, a senior investment manager at a venture capital company, who will be recognized in the industry as “the Gordon Ramsay of investments” given his sharp tongue and investment skills.

Han-na, meanwhile, plays Won In-jae, a young CEO with an attractive background that everyone wants: good education, beauty, and money. Despite this, she struggles to create her own success and be recognized for her own talent and skills.

“Start-Up” will premiere on Netflix Oct. 17. – RC, GMA News
