Half-Pinay Olivia Rodrigo skyrockets to no. 1 in Billboard's Hot 100 Chart with 'drivers license'

Filipino-American singer Olivia Rodrigo is unstoppable!

Shortly after her new single "drivers license" topped global charts of several streaming platforms,  it's also debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart

.

But that's not all. The 17-year old half-Pinay singer's song was also named by Spotify as having "the record for most streams for a song in a week."

"drivers license" was also the most-played song of the week in Apple Music, and it has broken Amazon Music's record for "most requested song ever in one day on Alexa globally + the biggest first week streaming debut ever globally on Amazon Music."

In the 63-year history of Billboard's Hot 100, less than 50 other songs had debuted at No. 1, which puts Olivia and "drivers license" along the ranks of Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone," Whitney Houston's "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)," Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On," Taylor Swift's "Cardigan," Ariana Grande's "Positions" and BTS' "Dynamite."

"I’ve gotten texts from people who are going on walks, and they’ll be walking past a house that is just blasting ‘Drivers License. Or they’ll be driving and pull up next to a car at a stop light, and the other car will be playing ‘Drivers License.’ You can see all the numbers and all the No. 1 charts, but to see people in their day-to-day lives listening to this song, having it resonate with them? That’s been insane," Olivia told Billboard in a report on Tuesday.

There's a lot of rumors surrounding the record-breaking song. Fans believe that the single was inspired by a love triangle between the singer and her "High School Musical" co-stars Joshua Bassett and Sabrina Carpenter.

Olivia and Joshua were an on-screen couple for "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" on Disney+ and were rumored to be romantically involved offstage as well.

But as the two appeared to have split up, Joshua was soon romantically linked to Sabrina who also stars in Disney's “Girl Meets World."

Upon releasing "drivers license" in early January, Olivia quickly became a top trending topic on Twitter.  Her music video now has over 49.3 million views on Youtube and continues to be on the video sharing platform's trending list 12 days after its release.
