Selena Gomez hits ‘The Good Fight’ for ‘tasteless’ joke about her kidney transplant

Selena Gomez took to social media to call out "The Good Fight" for its "tasteless" joke about her kidney transplant in 2017.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the actress and singer referred to a scene on the latest episode of the Paramount+ show. "I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently," she wrote.

"I hope in the next writer’s room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented it’s called out immediately and doesn’t make it on air."

As of writing, Selena's tweet has reached more than 144,200 likes and 3,700 shares.

Selena also took the time to thank her fans for always having her back and encouraged the public to become organ donors.

The Paramount+ show "The Good Fight," a legal drama series, received criticism after it aired a scene that showed characters tossing around joke ideas for a television executive and mentioning topics such as autism, necrophilia, and "Selena Gomez's kidney transplant."

, a source said the reference was not about her transplant but a "part of a discussion" on what was not okay to make fun of.

"If you watch the episode in full, the reference to Selena Gomez is part of a discussion the characters are having about topics that are not okay to make fun of and the idea of cancel culture and being cancelled for telling a bad joke," the source reportedly said.

"The reference is that Selena Gomez's transplant is not something you can joke about. We hope you can watch the episode to understand it is the complete opposite of the topic being made light of," the person added.

It's not the first time a television show received backlash for referring to Selena's health and her previous medical operation.

In 2020, Peacock's "Saved By the Bell" reboot episode referenced the singer's surgery in which characters debated the identity of Gomez's kidney donor. Peacock later on apologized for the reference.

Selena received a kidney transplant in 2017 from her good friend, "Grown-ish" actress Friancia Raisa, after she experienced kidney failure due to lupus, an autoimmune disease.

Many celebrities have fired back at shows for having their names used in a negative light. In March, Taylor Swift criticized Netflix's "Ginny & Georgia' after it made a sexist comment about her dating life. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
