'Sex and the City' actor Willie Garson passes away

"Sex and the City" actor Willie Garson has passed away. He was 57.

Garson's son, Nathan, wrote a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram Tuesday, as he bid his father farewell.

"I love you so much papa. Rest In Peace and I’m so glad you got to share all your adventures with me and were able to accomplish so much," he wrote. "I’m so proud of you. I will always love you, but I think it’s time for you to go on an adventure of your own."

He added, "You’ll always be with me. Love you more than you will ever know and I’m glad you can be at peace now. You always were the toughest and funniest and smartest person I’ve known. I’m glad you shared your love with me. I’ll never forget it or lose it."

PEOPLE Magazine reported the actor died on Tuesday after battling a "short illness." The report shared that Garson had been suffering from pancreatic cancer and was surrounded by family at the time of his death.

Many of Garson's "Sex and the City" co-stars and other celebrity friends expressed their heartbreak and grief online.

Cynthia Nixon, who played Miranda, said her co-star was "a source of light, friendship and show business lore."

She wrote, "So deeply, deeply sad we have lost Willie Garson. We all loved him and adored working with him. He was endlessly funny on-screen and and in real life. He was a source of light, friendship and show business lore. He was a consummate professional— always."

Co-star Kim Cattral also offered her condolences and said, "Such sad news and a terribly sad loss to the SATC family. Our condolences and RIP dear Willie xo."

Mario Cantone, who played Garson's on-screen husband, wrote in a tweet, "I couldn’t have had a more brilliant TV partner. I’m devastated and just overwhelmed with Sadness. Taken away from all of us way soon. You were a gift from the gods. Rest my sweet friend. I love you."

His "White Collar" co-stars also mourned the loss, with co-star Matt Bomer writing a heartbreaking message for the late actor.

"Willie. I don’t understand. And it’s not fair. This past year, you taught me so much about courage and resilience and love. I still haven’t wrapped my head around a world without you in it- where I can’t call you when I need to laugh, or be inspired. The last thing you did when we said goodbye was pull down your mask (I hate covid), smile, and wink at me," he wrote as she shared photos on Instagram.

"Your White Collar family is always here for Nathen. Save a place for me, because you know I want to be at your table up there," he added.

Glee star Kevin McHale, "Modern Family" star Julie Bown, and the likes of Ben STiller, Mia Farrow, and Brenda Strong all paid tribute to the actor.  

Garson is best known for playing the role of Standford Blatch, the best friend of Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw, in the hit "Sex and the City" series and its spinoff movies. After the original series wrapped up in 2004, Garson starred in multiple other projects such as "White Collar," "Whole Way Down" and "Hawaii Five-O."
