'Sesame Street' mourns the passing of Emilio Delgado better known as Luis

What a sad piece of news on a Friday.

Emilio Delgado, the actor who played Fix-It-Shop owner Luis on "Sesame Street" has passed away. He was 81.

On Instagram, the long-running kids show mourned the passing of Delgado, who, after playing Luis  for 40 years, proved to be on the forefront of diversity and representation. 

"A beloved member of the Sesame family for over 50 years, his warmth and humor invited children to share a friendship that has echoed through generations," Sesame Street said in its Instagram post Friday morning.

According to the TV program, "Emilio proudly laid claim to the 'record for the longest-running role for a Mexican-American in a TV series.'"

"We are so grateful he shared his talents with us and with the world," they added.

According to TMZ, the actor was "diagnosed with the blood cancer Multiple myeloma in December 2020."
