(BIE), “World Expos, officially known as International Registered Exhibitions, are a global gathering of nations dedicated to finding solutions to pressing challenges of our time by offering a journey inside a universal theme through engaging and immersive activities.”

“In the modern era, World Expos are unrivalled among international events in their size, scale, duration and visitor numbers. They are large-scale platforms for education and progress that serve as a bridge between governments, companies, international organisations, and citizens,” it said.

The latest World Expo took place in Dubai from Oct. 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, while the next one will happen in Osaka, Japan, from April 13 to Oct. 13, 2025.

Yonhap News said the World Expo “is one of the largest international festivals besides the World Cup and the Olympics. Hosting an expo is estimated to create economic effects worth $49.1 billion, according to the Korean government.”

It also said apart from South Korea, Italy and Saudi Arabia were also bidding for the event, and the winning host would be announced in November 2023. – RC, GMA News
